I thought it would be good to start a message thread for those who might be interested in attending the 40th Anniversary International Rally this summer in Sedalia Missouri.

As you can see from the attached map, its only 283 miles from the BMW Dealership in Omaha……. a little under 5 hours of actual road time.

The dates of the rally are July 19th to the 22nd (Thursday thru Sunday).

I am definitely planning on attending and am willing to organize a Flatlander ride down to the event, including arranging for all Flatlanders in attendance to camp together in one location at the site.

The January issue of the BMW ON magazine has initial information on the rally and you can also find info at <www.bmwmoa.org>

So let me know if you think you might be interested in joining a group ride down to the rally and we'll start working on the particulars.

John,
I am planning on attending the BMW MOA Rally.  I looked at the map and was thinking about going south on 75 to Kansas.  Then left turn, head east through St Joe, I think that is hwy 36 and on a piece to highway 65 turn right, south to Sedalia. The route is longer by a few miles, will avoid KC and it should reduce the heavy truck traffic.
Camping in one location at the rally with the club would be nice.
I installed some new Road Pilot 3's on my r1200rt and I are ready to hit the road when the season breaks.

Looken for dry roads

Grant:

Sounds like a good route to me.

I will do a little checking into whether it is possible to "reserve" a camping area for our club.  If not, we'll just have to make sure to get there early enough to get "first dibs".  I seem to remember that this is what Tom did for us when we all went to the National Rally in Gillette.

If this early spring weather keeps up, you should have some good chances to break in those new tires during the month of March.  Just let me know if you're looking for a riding partner on any of your day or weekend rides.

John,

Count me and my son in for attending the rally.  This will be a first for both of us so we are really looking forward to it and the camping.  That is if we survive the our west cost camping trip first. ;-)

Excellent!!

Consider you and your son "on the list".

I know that you will both enjoy it.

Fellow Flatlanders:

The "pre-registration" form for the 2012 Rally just came in the April issue of the BMW Owners News magazine.

It hasn't shown up on the Webpage yet, but I Imagine it will soon.  <www.bmwmoa.org>

The pre-registration fee is $35 for MOA Members and must be received by June 30, 2012.  After that date, the fee at the gate is $45.

John ....

At the rallies in West Bend, WI and Gillette, WY all I did was pick a spot and and then those of us who showed up early we just spread our tents out in a somewhat circle.  The late arriving club members could throw their tents up in the middle.  But if you want we have a club banner you could take and that would help mark out the turf for the club.

You would be surprised how small of a space was viewed as open turf for squatters to plop down their tent.   So someone needs to hang out in the area to help save space.  It is a hassle but well worth it as it is fun to have a bunch of friends around you.

I don't believe there is reserved spaces for clubs, and if there is, you can bet it isn't great space.   I just chose a space that was convenient to stuff, but not too close as to be too noisey.

Thanks for the tips Tom. Sounds like an 'early' arrival by at least one of us needs to be part of the group's trip agenda.
